From Alassio with love

Every year to mark Valentine’s Day, the city is decorated for this celebration of lovers and all of the boutiques in the town participate in the “Sales in Love” event, a day of sales with many items on sale at factory prices, to celebrate love.

Shops in the centre set up romantic shop windows to welcome all lovers and for one day they move to Piazza Matteotti and Via Torino. A perfect opportunity to find a gift for your sweetheart.

Alassio, City of Lovers

In Muretto there are symbols and works of art dedicated to love: Eros Pellini’s bronze sculpture The Lovers, Umberto Mastroianni’s steel Swans, the portrait of The Lovers by Reymond Peynet and the romantic kissing fish by artist Mario Berrino.

From Muretto, a wander through the Budello area of the town takes you to the Balzola café and cake shop, which is where the famous Baci, or “kisses”, biscuits were invented. After making time to sample them for yourself and learning about the courageous love story of Aleramo and Adelasia (after whom the town is named), you can continue your tour with a visit to La Cappelletta or Santa Croce church, the last of which offers a view you are sure to fall in love with.
