Sacred architecture
The town’s 19 churches are a precious part of our heritage, which reflect the history of the town and its people.
From Renaissance to Romanesque-Gothic and Baroque, there is a wide range of diverse architectural styles. The interiors of each of these churches also reveal wonderful works of art such as the floorings, frescoes, doorways, wooden statues and sculptures carved out of black stone.
Among the most important churches in Alassio we recommend: Collegiata Insigne S. Ambrogio, Madonna degli Angeli, Sant'Anna, Carità and Santa Maria.
La Cappelletta is one of our favourite viewpoints perched just above the waves. It offers truly incredible views over the Baia del Sole.
The Coscia Tower was built in the 16th century to defend our town against invaders coming from the sea. One of only a few such towers still standing, it seems to still be protecting us.
Via XX Settembre, Via Vittorio Veneto and Via Brennero form the area known as Budello, a long traditional Ligurian lane of historic buildings, bars, boutiques and shops.
In 1953 Mario Berrino began decorating a little wall, or Muretto, opposite Caffè Roma, creating an open-air art installation which continues to constantly evolve.
Throughout our history, Alassio has been very popular with the English as a destination for holidays and more.
